To promote my business, I created my own website so I could give my business a global base through internet. I also faced the same problems that many other small scale businesses face. I had limited resources. So, even though, I wanted a dedicated server to fulfill my needs, I had to make use of cheap web hosting services like shared web hosting.
As the time passed, it became quite apparent to me that shared web hosting is not the right option for me. Firstly, it gave me limited control which made it very hard for me to do any extensive software development on my website. Secondly, it did not provide me with high security. Another disadvantage of using shared web hosting service was that it had a slow response time. I needed a reliable web hosting service that could be flexible and give me opportunity to try out new things. However, it still had to be a cheaper web hosting service than dedicated web hosting service. So, when I came to know about Virtual Private Servers (VPS), I immediately hired VPS web hosting services.
VPS hosting is considered as to be somewhere between shared web hosting services and dedicated web hosting services. A VPS is a physical server that is further divided into multiple virtual servers. VPS hosting provides high level of privacy and increased security by providing each user with his own operating system. It helps in achieving insulation and is also very flexible. The cost of getting VPS hosting services is much lower than dedicated web hosting service. This is achieved by dividing the total cost among users of each virtual server.
VPS also reduces the risk of unauthorized access. It assigns separate and private mail server to each user so he can maintain his own antispamming standards. VPS hosting offers faster internet connectivity as well, which keeps the visitor of website happy. It gives more control to me which allows me to experiment with different kind of software development. I can add more attractive features, to my website, without much trouble.
One of the most important advantages of VPS hosting is that I can manage several websites on one account. I can maintain around 50 websites without having multiple user accounts, as is the case with share web hosting. In my business that is a big bonus. It turns out to be very economical for me. I can also deal with software related issues without paying much attention to hardware related problems. Thus, it saves me large amounts of time.
VPS has many advantages over my previous web hosting service. Though, shared web hosts offer very cheap web hosting services but it cannot satisfy the needs of my growing business. However, VPS hosting provides me with many benefits of a dedicated server. In fact, it’s like I am using dedicated web hosting service. Now, I can just sit back and relax, enjoying the control that VPS allows me.
